The Top 6 2023 Kitchen Trends

Mix Up Materials

This year the aim is not for a streamlined style storyline – instead, its about  opting for spaces that have mismatched appeal that are functional, timeless and charming. While you may find the idea of intentionally mismatching to be, well, concerning, fear not! We recommend picking harmonious colors but playing with fixtures, surfaces, and finishings!

This kitchen uses a stunning, luxurious picket tile, our Pichetto Navy Blue in both Matte and Glossy finishes for a unique layout!

Matchy-matchy was so last year; mixed materials are the way to go! When it comes to creating a kitchen that is both timeless and trendy, look no further than adding in elements that are eclectic, unique, and you

There are plenty of ways to do this right, and luckily, it’s one of the quickest ways to revamp your cooking area for the new year. For those on a budget, you can refresh and replace the pulls to the cabinets in your kitchen. Find some crafty, mismatched pulls that bring character into your home. This can be in the shape or color,, as Rashida Banks mentioned to Southern Living: “I don't want to see a kitchen that has all pulls or all knobs…Vary it up and give the cabinets a mixture of hardware between pulls, knobs, and latches.”

The trend applies to all areas of the kitchen, even the coffee bar. Pairing a statement backsplash tile, like our Gems Hex Agata Wood Look Glass Tile, with various styles of hardware on the drawers and some floating shelves is a great way to achieve this look.

For those  working with a bigger budget and want to make even more of a splash in their home, aim for mismatched countertop surfaces. Sounds strange, sure, but hear us out. Pairing quartz with marble can add a sparkle-meets-shine that wows. Don’t just take our word for it, interior designer Kristina Phillips said this was a must-do herself to House Beautiful: "Mixing countertop materials," says Kristina Phillips of what's coming her way. "Like quartzite on the island and soapstone on the surround."

2. Butler’s Pantries

As any homeowner knows, the kitchen is a main room that matters.  It’s where we gather to cook, eat, and socialize. But as our lives get busier, it can be hard to find the time to prepare a meal and entertain guests. That’s where the butler’s pantry comes in. This versatile space can be used for food prep, storage, or even as a mini-bar. Most pantries are outfitted with shelves for pantry items, and wide surfaces for cutting and prepping. Some even come with a sink and small fridge. When it comes to maximizing your kitchen’s space in the next year, a butler’s pantry is bound to be a hot addition to your home.

Butler’s pantries usually fly under the radar, but this year, they are front-and-center as a 2023 kitchen trend. These spaces are known for their transitional functionality; often they are small rooms set between the dining room and the kitchen.

In the new year, these spaces will get a facelift with more options for customization and the rise of the hidden pantry which can act as a luxury nook for coffee or cocktails.

David Kallie, president and CEO of Dimension Inc., told The Spruce:  “Customizable appliances that perfectly mimic the cabinetry are a trend that has been gaining speed for years. New in concealed kitchen design is the secret butler’s pantry…hidden behind a matching cabinetry panel or a sliding ‘wall’ door."

While practical in nature, there’s no reason that your butler’s pantry can’t shine! When considering the design scheme for your add-on workspace, don’t be afraid to go bold. A gemstone backsplash tile, like our Blue Gemstone Subway Glass Tile, is an excellent way to create a unique and sophisticated touch to the space.

3. Lived-In Is Okay

When it comes to creating a welcoming environment, this year’s trend for the kitchen definitely delivers. Nothing says timeless, classic, or cozy quite like a space that’s been lived in- or at least, looks that way.

Luckily, with the trend-approved worn in look, you’re in good shape. Whether you choose to adorn your floors in a tile like our Japandi Wood Look Natural Tile or some other wood look tile, we’re sure you’ll love this refined concept in 2023.

While worn-in spaces may elicit a gasp, trust us, this is the way of the future. No longer does pristine and clean rule the world of kitchen interiors. People are most interested in lived in spaces, ones that have secrets to share with every scratch or dent or spill. So, what secrets will you show the world with your kitchen?

“I think people are realizing that there's a certain amount of charm that comes with using and abusing your kitchen,” says Dilllon. “If you have marble or soapstone countertops, don't be afraid of the scratches or dings that might accompany late nights with guests or prepping for a big family meal.”

If you’re  more interested in the stylistic appeal of this trend, rather than actually wearing in your brand new space,, you’ll love the appeal of  wood look porcelain tiles. These are gorgeous, durable options for floors or walls that craft a story of worn-in wood. They’re especially ideal for a kitchen space because the non-permeable surface won’t harbor bacteria, mildew, or other disadvantages of well-loved surfaces. The result? You’re on trend in a refreshed, renewed way that’s perfect for the new year.

4. Reimagined Kitchen Islands

Why create a kitchen island the old way, when you can craft one that’s meant to be lived in for the new year? This upcoming year throws all the past rules out the window and welcomes in a renewed sense of design for your kitchen island.

Rather than just a place for utility, these spots are being transformed into spaces that act as gathering areas for guests while you meal prep or entertain. There are two new takes on the classic you should know: Butcher block islands and multifunctional farmhouse tables.

Butcher Block Islands

Butcher block kitchen islands are becoming increasingly popular in 2023, with homeowners looking to add a touch of elegance and practicality to their kitchen. Not only do butcher block kitchen islands look visually stunning, but they also offer great utility value. After all, having a dedicated spot for extra counter space and seating can be particularly valuable for busy households. With so many different styles available, you're bound to find one that fits your home's aesthetic perfectly. All-in-all, there is no doubt that butcher block kitchen islands will be the trendiest addition to your kitchen this year!

This white and wood kitchen combines natural wood countertops with a dazzling white glass backsplash in a herringbone pattern.

Multifunctional farmhouse  tables

Nothing has made us more excited for the new year like the inclination towards multifunctional farmhouse kitchen tables. We love being able to maximize our kitchen space, after all, it's often one of the most functional rooms in the house. With this amazing trend, the kitchen table not only serves as an area to gather around but also allows us to make meals and whip up dishes. Having it all in one place saves so much time and energy during hectic dinner parties or weekday mornings - not to mention it looks stylish! There’s no denying that when it comes to multipurpose furniture, we sure are fans of this kitchen island trend.

5. Wood Cabinetry Is on the Rise

Homeowners, it's time to embrace natural wooden cabinetry as the newest and upcoming trend of 2023! This trend is on the rise and we can honestly see why. Not only is there a huge variety to choose from, such as rustic, sleek and contemporary styles, but they are also incredibly aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Sure, we love a good paint color as much as the next interior fan, but there’s something to be said for that gorgeous wood grain.

We suggest selecting pieces that will bring a warm, inviting atmosphere - think natural colors and tones. Plus, you can use all over wooden accents in your kitchen to create the cozy ambiance all your guests will love!

As Cameron Johnson, CEO, and Founder of Nickson Living predicted with The Spruce: “Tthings like ‘wood or glass bowls in lieu of plastic, stainless trash bins, and wood storage containers’ on top of bigger-ticket items like marble countertops or natural wood cabinets are all things to watch out for in 2023.”

There’s just something about a full wood look wall that’s pleasing to the eye. This one hits all the stops. Using natural wood cabinetry and complementing it with our Calacatta Gold Marble Mosaic Tile, the result is a gorgeously modern design that’s both comforting and classic.

If you’re interested in the appearance of wooden cabinetry for your home’s kitchen  in 2023, but still crave an edge, you can definitely do that with a blended approach. Pair wooden cabinetry with darker tone cabinetry, like this space did, and then tie it all together with a statement pattern tile. We love the way this homeowner incorporates the Black and Gray Terrazzo Picket Tile as a backsplash tile. The result is sophisticated beauty that’s right on par for 2023 with the ability to transform in the years to come.

6. Cooking in Color

Homeowners have been so hesitant in the past to introduce colors into the kitchen, but not anymore! As we come into 2023, we're letting go of all our fear of colors and allowing ourselves to take a risk. No more boring white - now we can say hello to greenish blues, bold colors paired with warm wood tones, and limitless variety. The possibilities are endless in 2023 ---- it's time to add some life and personality to our kitchens.

Blue hues with green undertones

If you're looking for a truly timeless option to help set the tone of your kitchen interior in 2023, then shades of blue with green undertones is your golden ticket. This bold color combination creates an inviting atmosphere, melding together a breath of fresh air from blue hues and a sense of peace from tranquil greens.

As if this unique combo wasn't eye-catching enough, it also adds texture and depth to any kitchen setting, making it perfect for walls and backsplashes alike. As Kate Lester, interior designer says: “Shades of blues with more green undertones are a refreshing change. It immediately creates a wow factor, adds interest and provides contrast. Deep hues always give a classic feel that never feels overly trendy."

Brights mixed with wood tones

In the year ahead we’ll see the kitchen leading the way in innovative and colorful design. Bold colors will be accented with organic, wooden tones to bring a warm texture and depth to the space. Bright colored cabinets are going to introduce brightness and joy into the space, while wood tones such as the Bamboo Sticks Marble Mosaic Tile will provide balance, creating an inviting atmosphere for families and friends.

Whether you choose bright blues, sunshine yellows or even lush greens for your cabinetry, expect these cheery colors to tie any design together by matching them with rich, wooden textures for a modern look that's here to stay.
