MIRROR TILE INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE GUIDE
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Mirror tile is a decorative surfacing material consisting of glass with a reflective metallic backing and protective coatings. Mirror tile is commonly used in residential and commercial interiors to create visual depth, enhance natural light, and provide elegant decorative accents.
Mirror tile products may exhibit variations in reflectivity, color, antiquing effects, edge finishes, backing appearance, and surface characteristics. These characteristics are inherent to the manufacturing process and contribute to the unique appearance of the material.
Mirror tile is intended primarily for interior wall applications.
MIRROR TILE CHARACTERISTICS
Mirror tile products may exhibit:
· Reflective variation
· Antiquing variation
· Color variation
· Edge finish variation
· Surface texture variation
· Backing variation
· Distressed or aged effects (where applicable)
· Sheet-to-sheet variation
· Light reflection differences
These characteristics are inherent to mirror tile products and should not be considered manufacturing defects.
Samples, photographs, showroom displays, website images, and printed materials are intended only as general representations and may not precisely match the material received.
Tile Club recommends reviewing all material prior to installation.

Pools, Spas & Submerged Installations
Mirror tile is not recommended for:
· Swimming pools
· Spas
· Water features
· Fountains
· Other submerged applications
Steam Rooms
Mirror tile is generally not recommended for steam room installations.
Elevated heat and moisture levels may damage reflective backings and protective coatings.
Floor Applications
Mirror tile is not intended for floor installations.
Mirror tile may be susceptible to:
· Breakage
· Surface scratching
· Slip hazards
· Impact damage
Applications Requiring Additional Evaluation
Consult a qualified design professional before installation in:
· High-moisture environments
· Commercial kitchens
· Exterior environments
· Steam rooms
· Submerged applications
· High-impact areas
· Applications exceeding published product specifications
SITE CONDITIONS
Prior to installation:
· Building must be enclosed and weather-tight.
· HVAC systems should be operational where applicable.
· Surface and ambient temperatures should remain between 50°F and 100°F (10°C–38°C).
· Substrates must be fully cured and structurally sound.
SUBSTRATE REQUIREMENTS
All substrates must be:
· Structurally sound
· Clean and dry
· Properly cured
· Flat and level
· Free of contaminants
· Prepared according to ANSI and TCNA standards
Maximum Allowable Variation
For mirror tile installations:
· Maximum variation of 1/8” in 10 feet
· Maximum variation of 1/16” in 24 inches
Mirror tile may reveal substrate imperfections and irregularities. Proper substrate preparation is critical.
LAYOUT REQUIREMENTS
Proper layout planning is critical to achieving a professional installation.
Dry Layout
Prior to installation:
· Measure installation areas.
· Establish reference lines and focal points.
· Review reflective alignment.
· Verify pattern consistency.
· Review cuts and transitions.
· Confirm placement prior to installation.
Grout Joints
· Maintain consistent grout joints.
· Follow manufacturer recommendations.
· Do not butt-joint mirror tile.
Movement Joints
Movement joints must comply with TCNA EJ171 guidelines and should be installed:
· Around room perimeters
· At changes in plane
· At transitions between materials
· Around restraining surfaces
· At intervals recommended by industry standards
INSTALLATION
Tile Club recommends installation by a qualified tile professional familiar with mirror tile products.
Setting Materials
Use only mirror-safe adhesives and setting materials approved for mirror installations.
Recommended materials may include:
· Neutral-cure silicone adhesives
· Mirror-safe construction adhesives
· Manufacturer-approved setting materials
Always follow manufacturer instructions.
Important Adhesive Considerations
Improper adhesives may damage reflective backings and permanently affect the appearance of mirror tile.
Do not use:
· Solvent-based adhesives
· Acid-curing silicones
· Incompatible mastics
· Adhesives not approved for mirror applications
Tile Club recommends performing a mock-up installation prior to full installation to verify adhesive compatibility.
Tile Placement
· Handle mirror tile carefully during installation.
· Protect surfaces from scratches.
· Remove excess adhesive immediately.
· Avoid damaging edges and reflective backings.
Allow setting materials to cure fully before grouting where applicable.
CUTTING & FABRICATION
Mirror tile should be cut using:
· Glass cutting tools
· Wet saws equipped with glass-specific blades
· Diamond hole saws where necessary
To minimize damage:
· Cut slowly and carefully.
· Support material properly during cutting.
· Protect reflective backing during fabrication.
Minor edge imperfections resulting from field cutting may occur and are not considered manufacturing defects.
GROUTING
Allow setting materials to cure completely before grouting.
Recommended Grouts
For most mirror tile installations, Tile Club recommends:
· Premium non-sanded grout
· High-performance non-sanded grout
· Manufacturer-approved grout systems
Non-sanded grout is generally recommended for grout joints up to 1/8”.
Important Grout Considerations
Mirror tile surfaces may be susceptible to scratching.
Prior to grouting:
· Test grout in an inconspicuous area.
· Verify compatibility with the tile surface.
· Avoid abrasive cleanup methods.
· Use clean water and non-abrasive sponges.
Grout Cleanup
Remove grout haze promptly according to grout manufacturer instructions.
Do not allow grout residue to cure on mirror surfaces.
Improper grout selection or cleanup procedures may damage mirror tile surfaces.
SEALING
Mirror tile generally does not require sealing.
Certain specialty finishes may have specific maintenance requirements.
Refer to product-specific recommendations where applicable.
CLEANING & MAINTENANCE
To preserve the appearance of mirror tile:
Routine Cleaning
· Clean regularly using a soft microfiber cloth.
· Use glass-safe, non-abrasive cleaners.
· Dry surfaces after cleaning.
