QUESTIONS & ANSWERSAsk a Question
Can this installed around the fireplace on top of existing ceramic tiles?
This tile can be installed on a fireplace surround - you can see a similar Mother of Pearl mosaic tile on a fireplace facing on the page for our Pure White Mother Of Pearl Herringbone Mosaic Tile. Always make sure you install tiles near a heat source according to fire codes.
Normally we don't recommend installing tile over existing tiles as tiles and grout lines do not provide the best bonding surface for your new tiles. Since this is an area that will not be exposed to water, which can easily get between layers of tiles, you may be able to use your existing tiles as a base, but we do recommend being careful with your installation to prolong the life of your new tiles.
- You may want to consult a tile setter who can assess the old tiles and recommend the best mortar and methods to provide the best bond between old and new tiles.
Is it easy to take off after use? Will it chip paint when taken off?
This tile should be installed with thinset, and you could take it off the same way you take off any other tile.
