Frequently Asked Questions about Herringbone Pearl White Thassos Marble and Shell Tile:

Q: Can I install Pearl White Thassos Marble and Shell Tile behind my stove? What happens if it gets splattered with sauce or grease?

A: You absolutely can install this tile on your backsplash and behind your cooktop! We always recommend wiping up spills and splashes as they happen to keep your tiles and grout as pristine as possible.

Q: How do I clean a shell and white marble tile to avoid stains?

A: For daily cleaning, or cleaning up after cooking, we recommend using a water-based, alkaline tile cleaner to keep your white kitchen backsplash pristine. Shell is a non-porous material, so it can be easily wiped clean of even bright red tomato sauce!

Q: How can I be sure this tile will look white and beautiful over time?

A: While the Thassos white marble is a relatively porous material, you can apply a penetrating sealer that will fill up the small pores in the stone and keep it from absorbing stains! Tile Club Recommends reapplying your sealer once a year or so to keep your white marble tiles protected.

Q: Where can I install this tile?

A: Tile Club recommends installing this beautiful white marble and pearl tile on indoor walls and floors! Despite the delicate beauty of the materials, this mosaic tile is made of durable materials - shell is thin but strong enough for a residential, low-traffic floor! You can create a dazzling backsplash, fireplace surround, bathroom floor (those grout lines add grip!), shower enclosure and even a white marble shower floor!

*Natural stone tiles may display variations in color, finish, strength, and slip resistance. White marble may contain naturally occurring iron deposits that can lead to discoloration if used in areas prone to wet or damp, or if exposed to harsh chemical cleaners. As this is an inherent feature of the material, Tile Club does not assume responsibility for discoloration of marble or other natural stone tiles. To ensure you enjoy your white marble tiles for years to come, we recommend installing them in areas that are not prone to standing water, and regularly applying a marble tile sealer to help prevent stains and discoloration of your grout.

    Ask a Question
    • Is this tile good for a kitchen backsplash? Is it durable? Is it easy to clean and maintain or does it stain easily? Thanks!

Yes, you can use our Herringbone Pearl shell and marble tile for a kitchen backsplash behind the stove! The Mother of Pearl shell details are non-porous so they won't absorb stains or splashes. The white marble and grout should be sealed with a penetrating sealer (typically every 6-12 months) - it helps to keep the porous materials clean and bright over time. We do recommend wiping up splashes as soon as you're done cooking to avoid anything from setting on the stone or in the grout lines, but the sealer also helps to avoid stains from absorbing. Use a marble cleaner to keep the gorgeous white stone clean and lustrous!

    • What’s the best tool options to use when cutting this tile around electrical sockets

For the most precise cuts, we would recommend cutting these tiles with a wet saw with a diamond blade. This is a mosaic tile with a flexible backing, so you will want to use a backing board and painter's tape to hold it in place, then set the depth of the saw to only cut the tile sheet. That's the best way to ensure the full sheet is kept firmly in place during your cut!

    • Can this tile be used as a tile surrounding a fireplace? If so, is there a recommendation of a tile that could match this for the floor area in front of the fireplace?

Yes, you can install our Herringbone Pearl White Thassos Marble and Shell tile on a fireplace surround! You can see some of the ways our tiles have been used for fireplace facings in our Living Area lookbook. Always install the fireplace and gas insert to fire codes.
This tile is also approved for residential floor use where there is low foot traffic, as are many of our matching waterjet marble and Mother of Pearl tiles. The shell inserts are thin but quite strong! The main white marble in this tile is Thassos stone, so you can also choose any of our white marble Thassos floor tiles if you prefer to only use the shell accents on your fireplace. If you would like to balance out the patterned look for the fireplace surround with a clean floor tile, here are some of our matching marble field tiles that would pair beautifully as a flooring option!

    • Hi, Why is sanded grout recommended for this product? Could non-sanded grout work?

We recommend Laticrete Permacolor grout for this product but you can use white non-sanded grout as well. We recommended you test the grout in a small area prior to grouting the whole area to make sure that you like the result.

    • Hello, What is the recommended tile spacing for this tile?

The tile spacing should match the space between pieces within the sheet of mosaic which is approximately 1/16"

    • How do you install this tile?

      Hello Cheryl,

This tile would be installed with a mortar and grout in a standard tile application - if you'd like to let us know a bit more about where you are thinking of installing it (backsplash, wall, floor, shower, etc.) we can help guide you to additional installation resources in our blog!

    • Hi I have question about the dimensions of the tile so my backsplash is about 9feet* 2 feet width so how many box I need and how much for the total Thank you

Thank you for your message! Each sheet of this product covers 1.017 sq ft. Do you have your exact measurements/square footage calculations? You can use our calculator or ask your installer/contractor to provide the exact footage needs, then the quantity calculator will let you know how many boxes will cover that footage. If you have exact measurements, you can always email us directly for help, but we recommend having in-person measurements and calculations done for the most accurate count.
