FAQs about Zellige Tile
Q: What is zellige tile?
A: Zellige - or zelij tile - refers to an ancient Moroccan tradition of making individual tile pieces by hand. Handcrafting each piece gives them a unique surface texture, individual to each tile. They are glazed to add rich color and a glossy or pearly finish. Since none of the pieces have a uniform surface or color, you will always have a custom look to your project!
Q: Is zellige tile hard to clean?
A: Thanks to their glazed finish, you can easily wipe these tiles clean! Use warm, soapy water and a soft, non-abrasive cloth to clean them.
Q: Do you grout zellige tiles?
A: Yes, you should grout your tiles to prevent stains or moisture from reaching your substrate from spaces between the tiles. Tile Club recommends 1/16” grout lines between each tile. You can use spacers to easily add grout lines when applying your tiles onto the thinset. We recommend an unsanded grout in your choice of color - Tile Club usually shows our zellige tile installations with Laticrete Bright White Grout!
Q: Is zellige tile expensive?
A: Traditionally, these are handcrafted tiles that are made with exquisite care and artistry. Tile Club carries designs inspired by handmade pieces that are much more cost-effective! Our collection starts at $10.70 per square foot to offer a budget-friendly way to add these unique tiles to your home or business!
