Diamond Glass Installation & Maintenance Guide

Tile Club’s Diamond Collection features cracked glass mosaic tile designed to bring rich jewel-inspired color, smooth surface movement, and reflective depth to tile installations. Its mosaic format allows for flexible design use across walls, backsplashes, showers, pools, and other approved applications.

Because Diamond is a glass mosaic collection, slight color variation should be expected from piece to piece and from production run to production run. Some glass surfaces may also be susceptible to scratching during handling, installation, and use.

Diamond mosaic sheets require additional installation attention compared to standard mosaic tile.

Before beginning your project, please review the following recommendations and confirm the most current specifications, approved applications, and installation guidance.

1. Pre-Installation Inspection

Inspect Before Installation

Inspect all tile before installation. Installing the material confirms acceptance of the product’s appearance, color variation, texture, sizing, finish, and overall condition.

Please contact Tile Club with any questions about product acceptability, visual variation, or suitability before installation begins.

Dry Layout Recommended

Lay out the mosaic sheets before installation to review color variation, sheet alignment, spacing, and overall appearance.

This step is especially important for cracked glass mosaics because sheet placement, loose pieces, and grout joint blending can affect the finished result.

Installation Responsibility

Tile Club is not responsible for improper installation, installation workmanship, or issues that occur after the material has been installed.

Final responsibility for proper installation rests with the installer and end user. Glass mosaic tile may be susceptible to scratching during handling, installation, and use.

Slight color variation from one production run to another should be expected.

3. Installation Recommendations

Tile Club strongly recommends using a licensed tile professional familiar with current NTCA, ASTM, and ANSI installation standards.

Diamond cracked glass mosaic sheets require extra installation steps that differ from standard mosaic tile. Proper substrate preparation, white setting material, sheet blending, and grout joint adjustment are essential for the best finished appearance.

Surface Preparation

Install Diamond mosaic tile over a clean, sound, and properly prepared substrate.

The surface must be free of dirt, oils, curing compounds, sealers, cracks, and any condition that could affect bond performance.

For wet areas, including showers and pools, the substrate should be properly waterproofed. If needed, use the installation material manufacturer’s membrane system for crack isolation and water protection.

Setting Material Considerations

Use the correct adhesive, grout, and sealants for cracked glass mosaic tile. Incorrect setting materials may damage the color, clarity, or appearance of the glass.

White thin-set mortar or white setting material is recommended for glass tile to help maintain color consistency with the approved sample.

Do not spread adhesive over large areas at once. Adhesive may begin to dry before the mosaic sheets are placed.

To begin the bond coat, use the flat side of a trowel to firmly apply glass-tile-approved thin-set to the substrate. To establish the proper setting bed depth, use a 3/16” x 1/4” v-notch trowel to apply additional thin-set and comb full notches in one direction.

Use the flat side of the trowel to flatten the notches and create a smooth, consistent thin-set setting bed.

Sheet Placement and Blending

Apply mosaic sheets to the thin-set setting bed with light, even pressure.

When joining sheets, select individual glass pieces and use the extra loose pieces provided in the plastic bag to help blend sheet transitions.

Adjust the sheets so the grout lines do not appear overly uniform. Use the loose pieces to bridge between two sheets and create a more seamless appearance.

Push pieces together as tightly as possible to reduce the appearance of large openings. Check carefully for visible seams and adjust pieces as needed.

Because of the Diamond glass piece format, some joints between sheets may still be visible even after filling gaps with extra glass pieces.

Diamond mosaic sheets may require approximately 30-40% more installation time than standard mosaic tile. A qualified installer is strongly recommended to achieve the desired finished result.

Cutting Recommendations

Use a high-quality wet saw with a diamond blade designed for glass tile.

Cut slowly and carefully to help reduce chipping and protect the glass surface.

Grouting Considerations

Grout joints should be fully packed and free of voids and pits.

Clean excess grout from the surface while the grout is still fresh and before it hardens.

Before grouting the full installation, test in a small area to confirm that the selected grout color is suitable and that the final appearance meets expectations.

Grouting may begin after the tile is firmly set, typically approximately 24 hours after installation.

5. Care & Maintenance

Glass mosaic tile is durable and stain resistant, but proper care will help preserve the beauty of the installation over time.

Routine Cleaning

Clean the mosaic surface with:

Use gentle cleaning methods to help protect the cracked glass surface and grout.
