NATURAL STONE CHARACTERISTICS

Do not install material that appears damaged or unacceptable.

Claims regarding visible defects, appearance concerns, color variation, veining, natural characteristics, or finish cannot be honored after installation.

LAYOUT REQUIREMENTS

Proper layout planning is critical to achieving a professional installation.

Dry Layout

Tile Club strongly recommends dry-laying marble tile prior to installation.

Dry layout allows:

·       Evaluation of color variation

·       Vein matching

·       Pattern balancing

·       Placement of focal pieces

·       Review of transitions and cuts

Vein Direction

Where applicable:

·       Review vein flow prior to installation.

·       Establish desired pattern direction.

·       Consider vein-matching techniques for premium installations.

Grout Joints

·       Maintain consistent grout joints.

·       Follow industry standards and installer recommendations.

·       Do not butt-joint marble tile.

Movement Joints

Movement joints must comply with TCNA EJ171 guidelines and should be installed:

·       Around room perimeters

·       At changes in plane

·       At transitions between materials

·       Around restraining surfaces

·       At intervals recommended by industry standards


INSTALLATION

Tile Club recommends installation by a qualified natural stone installer familiar with marble installation methods and industry standards.

Setting Materials

Use premium white mortars suitable for natural stone installations.

Recommended materials include:

·       ANSI A118.4 modified thin-set mortar

·       ANSI A118.15 high-performance thin-set mortar

·       Large-and-heavy-tile (LHT) mortars where appropriate

·       Natural stone-approved setting materials

Important Mortar Considerations

White mortars are strongly recommended for most marble installations to minimize the risk of discoloration.

Certain moisture-sensitive marble products may require specialized installation methods and setting materials.

Tile Club recommends performing a small mock-up installation prior to full installation to verify mortar, grout, and stone compatibility.

Mortar Coverage Requirements

·       Interior dry areas: Minimum 80% coverage

·       Wet areas: Minimum 95% coverage

·       Exterior applications: Minimum 95% coverage

Back Buttering

Back buttering is strongly recommended for:

·       Large-format stone

·       Exterior installations

·       Wet areas

·       Natural stone with uneven backs

Tile Placement

·       Press tile firmly into fresh mortar.

·       Periodically remove tile to verify coverage.

·       Eliminate voids beneath stone.

·       Remove excess mortar from joints before curing.

Allow mortar to cure completely before grouting.


CUTTING & FABRICATION

Marble should be cut using:

·       Wet saws equipped with diamond stone blades

·       Diamond hole saws

·       Professional stone fabrication equipment

To minimize breakage:

·       Support material properly during cutting.

·       Handle stone carefully during fabrication.

·       Use appropriate stone-cutting equipment.

Natural stone may chip along cut edges during fabrication and field cutting.


GROUTING

Non-sanded grout is generally recommended for polished marble and installations with grout joints up to 1/8”.

Important Grout Considerations

Certain grouts may scratch or stain natural stone surfaces.

Prior to grouting:

·       Test grout in an inconspicuous area.

·       Verify compatibility with the stone.

·       Follow manufacturer recommendations.

·       Avoid abrasive cleanup methods.

Epoxy Grouts

Epoxy grouts may be suitable for certain marble installations; however, compatibility should always be verified prior to installation.

Grout Cleanup

Remove grout haze promptly according to grout manufacturer instructions.

Do not allow grout residue to cure on stone surfaces.


SEALING

Initial Sealing

Most marble products should be sealed after installation and before regular use.

Use a premium penetrating sealer specifically formulated for natural stone.

Ongoing Sealing

Tile and grout are not waterproof systems.

Waterproofing must be provided by the substrate preparation and membrane assembly.

Because marble is a porous natural stone, routine sealing and maintenance are particularly important in wet environments.


INSTALLATION STANDARDS

Installations should comply with the latest editions of:

·       Tile Council of North America (TCNA) Handbook

·       ANSI A108 Standards

·       Natural Stone Institute Guidelines

·       Applicable local building codes

·       Setting material manufacturer instructions

When requirements differ, the more stringent standard shall apply.


LIMITED WARRANTY

Tile Club warrants that its marble tile products conform to applicable industry standards at the time of shipment.

Because marble is a natural product, variations in color, veining, texture, movement, mineral content, pits, fissures, and other natural characteristics are not considered defects and are not covered under this warranty.

Purchaser’s sole remedy under this warranty is limited to replacement of defective material or, at Tile Club’s sole discretion, a refund of the original purchase price of the defective material.

Warranty Exclusions

This warranty does not cover:

·       Installation labor costs

·       Removal or reinstallation expenses

·       Freight or transportation charges

·       Project delays

·       Loss of use

·       Improper installation

·       Improper substrate preparation

·       Failure to follow ANSI, TCNA, Natural Stone Institute, manufacturer, or industry standards

·       Structural movement or substrate failure

·       Improper maintenance or cleaning

·       Chemical damage

·       Acid etching

·       Staining

·       Water damage

·       Salt exposure

·       Freeze/thaw damage

·       Surface scratching

·       Loss of polish

·       Normal wear and tear

·       Product use outside approved applications

Claims & Inspection

All products must be inspected prior to installation.

Any concerns regarding product quality, appearance, color, veining, finish, size, or suitability must be reported before installation.

Installation constitutes acceptance of the material and acknowledgment that the product is suitable for the intended application.

No claims will be accepted for visible defects or natural stone characteristics that could have been identified prior to installation.

Limitation of Liability

Tile Club’s liability, if any, shall be limited solely to the replacement value of the defective material.

Under no circumstances shall Tile Club be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, including labor charges, removal costs, installation expenses, project delays, loss of profits, or other related costs.

No representative, dealer, installer, contractor, or third party is authorized to modify or extend this warranty.
